<\/p>\nAs the first truly warming rays of June sunshine streamed into Loddon Hall, the Twyford Singers prepared for their first return to this popular venue in three years.<\/p>\n

A packed house was treated to a huge feast of music, from full opera choruses to light opera and big hits from the West End shows. With seventeen pieces, two medleys and two solos to choose from it is difficult to single out one or two but the comical rendition of Gilbert and Sullivan\u2019s, \u2018When a Felon\u2019s not Engaged in his Employment\u2019 (Policeman\u2019s Song) complete with bobby\u2019s hats followed by \u2018With Cat-like Tread\u2019, in pirate hats creeping up on their \u2018prey\u2019, the singers captured their audience. Such frivolity was countered beautifully by the solo \u2018Mon Coeur S\u2019ouvre a ta Voix\u2019, sung by Twyford Singers Musical Director, Helen Styles.<\/p>\n
The banquet of music presented in the first half also include choruses of the Hebrew Slaves by Verdi, Humming Chorus by Puccini and the Anvil (with real anvil) also by Verdi. Appropriately this half ended with the lively drinking song \u2018Danca Cachuca\u2019 from The Gondoliers.<\/p>\n
Returning refreshed from the interval, the choir pulled no punches by launching into Lloyd Webber classics \u2018Memory\u2019 and the anthemic \u2018Love Changes Everything\u2019. If this wasn\u2019t enough, they followed this with two pieces from Les Mis\u00e9rables, \u2018Do Your Hear the People Sing\u2019 with the choir stirring the crusade and rallying the brave followed by the haunting ballad \u2018Bring Him Home\u2019.<\/p>\n
The beautifully sad solo \u2018Bui Doi\u2019 from Miss Saigon was sung by choir tenor, Pippa Morton, before the evening was rounded off with songs from Phantom of the Opera, My Fair Lady and a medley of Richard Rogers including well know pieces like \u2018Do Re Me\u2019 and Oklahoma! The finale was a memorised piece call \u2018Rhythm of Life\u2019 from Sweet Charity which left the audience stunned, but in a good way.<\/p>\n
All of this magic was made possible by the outstanding musical direction given by Helen Styles accompanied by Judith Creighton on the piano keyboard and supported by countless volunteers from the choir, friends and families.<\/p>\n
Twyford Singers now have a well-earned break for the Summer and will be back in October with their Come and Sing event followed in December by another amazing Christmas Concert. <\/p>\n
