There was a Twyford Choral Society before 1939, but it lapsed during the war. It was revived under the same title in the 1950’s and then in 1962 the present choir was formed adopting the simpler name of ‘Twyford Singers’, which we thought more accurately reflects our varied repertoire.
Each year we perform Christmas and Summer concerts and an Easter performance on Palm Sunday. We are invited to sing at other events and also visit local residential homes for a sing-along with the residents at Christmas.
Our popular Twyford Christmas Concert at St Mary’s Church, Twyford is an important part of the area’s festive diary.
We perform a wide repertoire of pieces, songs from the shows such as “South Pacific”, “Phantom Of The Opera” or “West Side Story”; Victorian part songs, madrigals, opera choruses and oratorios and we generally sing from scores. We also tackle complex pieces from time to time, occasionally by “modern” composers such as John Rutter, Karl Jenkins and Sir Peter Maxwell Davies.
We rehearse on Tuesday evenings from 19.45 to 21.45 in St Mary’s Church in Twyford.
TicketSource will open for booking tickets for our next Concert nearer the time.
